Description

The Boy Who Steals Houses is a novel by CG Drews that tells the story of Sam Loudermilk, a fifteen-year-old boy who, along with his autistic older brother Avery, is on the run from a difficult past. To survive, they resort to breaking into empty houses when the owners are away, seeking temporary refuge and a semblance of a home. Sam is fiercely protective of Avery and is burdened by the responsibility to provide for both of them. As their situation grows increasingly precarious, Sam's life takes an unexpected turn when he accidentally breaks into a house that isn't empty. Instead of finding solitude, he stumbles into the chaos of a large, warm family that mistakes him for a friend of one of their sons. As he gets entangled in their lives, Sam experiences a sense of belonging for the first time. However, the fear that the truth about his life will come out and that he will lose this newfound sanctuary looms over him. The book explores themes of family, belonging, and the lengths one will go to protect the ones they love.
