Description

The Wolves of Willoughby Chase is a children's novel set in an alternative 19th-century England where wolves have migrated through a newly connected tunnel from Europe during a harsh winter. The story follows cousins Bonnie and Sylvia as they are left in the care of the cruel Miss Slighcarp while Bonnie's parents leave on a trip. Miss Slighcarp plots to take over Willoughby Chase, the family estate, by sending the girls to a dismal orphanage and claiming Bonnie's inheritance. With the help of a resourceful young boy named Simon, who lives in the woods and raises geese, the girls escape and endure various hardships, including a treacherous journey back home. They expose Miss Slighcarp's schemes and restore the estate to its rightful order. The novel combines adventure, resilience, and the triumph of good over evil, all set against a backdrop of a fantastical wintry landscape.
