In 'The Empire Strikes Back,' the second installment of the Star Wars saga, the Rebel Alliance is forced to evacuate their base on the ice planet Hoth after the Empire discovers their location. During the evacuation, Luke Skywalker receives a vision of Obi-Wan Kenobi, who instructs him to travel to the Dagobah system to train with Jedi Master Yoda. Meanwhile, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, and C-3PO evade the Imperial fleet in the Millennium Falcon, eventually seeking refuge in the Cloud City of Bespin, which is governed by Han's old friend Lando Calrissian. However, they are betrayed by Lando when Darth Vader uses them as bait to lure Luke. After intense training, Luke senses his friends in danger and leaves Dagobah against Yoda's advice. He confronts Vader in a lightsaber duel and learns the shocking truth that Vader is his father. The book ends with the heroes escaping, but with the Rebellion in a precarious position and Luke grappling with his new-found knowledge.
