A Thousand Steps Into Night

Alibaba and the Forty Thieves, retold by Indrani Vohra, is a classic tale from the Arabian Nights collection. The story follows Alibaba, a poor woodcutter who discovers the secret of a thieves' den, concealed by a magical phrase 'Open Sesame'. Upon entering, Alibaba finds vast treasures and takes some gold to improve his life. His brother, Cassim, learns of the secret and greedily tries to take more treasure but is caught and killed by the thieves. Alibaba discovers his brother's fate and retrieves his body with the help of Morgiana, a clever slave girl. The thieves seek revenge but are outwitted by Morgiana's quick thinking. She kills the leader and the rest of the thieves, securing the treasure and safety for Alibaba and his family. The story ends with Alibaba freeing Morgiana and sharing his wealth, living a prosperous life thereafter.
