Each page presents a new animal and activity, but the Hippopotamus on the opposite page does not join in, instead just watching, until the animals invite her to partake in their fun. The story concludes with the animals engaged in their activities, and the Hippopotamus joining in, but then they spot another animal who is not joining in.
